John Mayer shocked fans this week in a controversial interview with Playboy magazine in which he used the N-word and likened his sexual desires to that of a white supremacist. But despite a quick apology and explanation via Twitter, followed by an onstage breakdown during a Nashville concert, it appears his self-proclaimed “hood pass” may have expired.
“Whenever you use the N-word, there are going to be serious consequences,” an A-list Hollywood record executive told Pop Tarts. “People come back all the time from inappropriate comments, but this is a serious problem that could possibly hurt record sales and his public perception if it keeps blowing up. Mayer should do some sensitivity training, which might be a good start in bouncing back from this.”
Prior to the incident, which coincides with Black History Month, Mayer was often penned as a crossover artist. Over the course of his career, he had worked with a range of black music moguls including Jay-Z, B.B King, Herbie Hancock, Nelly, NaS and was even one of the few artists featured in last year’s Michael Jackson Memorial Concert. But experts speculate that he may have quite a bit of crawling to do to get back in the industry’s good graces after using such degrading language.
“His comments were as offensive as you can get,” a label insider said. “Some African-American artists will definitely stand their ground and just write him off. Mayer’s comments are not only unacceptable, they're illogical and totally irrational for somebody who is as smart as he is supposed to be.”
The National Organization for African-American women was also “outraged” by the interview.
“The NOAW is outraged by the recent degrading and irresponsible statements made by recording artist John Mayer. His statements in regards to African-American women were disgraceful,” a rep said in a statement. “The use of the ‘N’ word was particularly offensive and vile. His outlandish statements are a slap in the face to the multitude of African-American people who are his fans and who have purchased his music.”
Mayer’s comments have understandably drawn criticism from the hip-hop community, with several artists taking to their Twitter accounts to express their thoughts.
"My man John Mayer must love the taste of his own foot,” rapper Talib Kweli Tweeted, while Noreaga apparently wrote “Dear John Mayer, black women don't like u cause ur a a--hole."
However The Roots’ Questlove was a little more forgiving.
“hmmm. ill give mayer a benefit of the doubt (remember how people misinterpreted my photo?) and assume that was a punchline gone awry,” he Tweeted on Wednesday. “lol then again on 2nd read....can't wait to see spin on this. i swear his #1 demographic is the white dude black women would do in a second.”
Meanwhile other high-profile regular Tweeters like Diddy, Kanye West and 50 Cent have so far stayed silent on the issue. Mayer (who averages around 6-10 Tweets per day) laid low on Thursday, presumably to allow the storm to blow over.
Columbia records, the label that represents Mayer, declined to comment on the issue.
But despite the intense backlash, there is still hope for Mayer’s image to recover.
“I believe a lot of black artists will forgive him, they will move on,” Tarts’ label source said. “If [Michael Richards, who played] Kramer from Seinfeld was in a movie tomorrow that got critical acclaim, was the hit at Sundance, or if he had been in Avatar, people would have moved on. They wouldn’t have said, ‘We aren’t going to see ‘Avatar’ because of him.’ That is not only my belief, but it’s my experience.”

ASHTON KUTCHER PROPOSAL TO DEMI MOORE
Ashton Kutcher has opened up about the day he asked Demi Moore to marry him - insisting his plans to video the magic moment went wrong and forced him to scrap his romantic proposal.
The 32 year old wed the Hollywood beauty, 47, in 2005 after two years of dating, but Kutcher admits the day he decided to pop the question didn't run smoothly and he had to delay the proposal by 24 hours.
He says, "I planned to video the moment I proposed so that years later I could play it back to her and say, 'See, you did say yes to being my wife.' But just as I was going to propose, I realised I had run out of film. So I stumbled round all day with this ring burning a hole in my pocket. She kept asking, 'What's wrong, sweetie?' and I couldn't tell her. It was a little goofy. So I had to put it off until the next day."
But Kutcher feared his future wife wouldn't take his proposal seriously, because the day he eventually asked for her hand in marriage was 1 April.
He adds, "I ended up proposing on April Fool's Day - KATE WINSLET TO MAKE TV RETURN
Kate Winslet is returning to her television roots - she's set to appear in a small screen version of [JAMES M. CAIN]'s novel Mildred Pierce.
The Titanic star began her acting career on British TV in the 1990s before breaking into Hollywood movies.
Now she's returning to the small screen in a mini-series of Mildred Pierce, playing a proud single mother in Depression-era Los Angeles.
The Sopranos' Ilene Landress will produce the series for HBO, while Todd Haynes and Jon Raymond are helming the script.
Joan Crawford starred in the 1945 film adaptation, which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Filming is due to start in New York in April (10).
Old Nintendo system sells for $13,105
Everyday folk discovering colossally valuable collectors' items amid everyday junk has been the lifeblood of antiques shows for years, but it's not every day you see a real-life gold-in-the-attic tale play out on eBay.
Last week, North Carolina eBay user lace_thongs35 thought she was putting up an everyday, 80s-era Nintendo Entertainment System (together with five games) up on the popular auction site. But less than an hour after the first bid, the price was over $6,000 -- and on Wednesday, when the auction closed, the final selling price topped $13,000
Why? Not the console itself, but one of the games bundled with it -- a deeply obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events, a highly sought-after collectors' item. But it wasn't even the game itself that was worth the bulk of the money -- it was the original cardboard box, which collectors value at a breathtaking $10,000. Fewer than 10 complete copies of the game are thought to exist, and retro gaming aficionados consider it one of the hardest-to-find NES games ever made.

Breaking News: Jaycee Dugard reveals secret diary
Jaycee Dugard, the Northern California woman who was kidnapped as a child and held prisoner for 18 years, kept a diary in which she wrote of longing for freedom and feeling both emotionally trapped and protective of the man charged with raping her, court documents filed Thursday show.
"It feels like I'm sinking. ... this is supposed to be my life to do with what I like ... but once again he has taken it away," Dugard wrote in an entry dated July 5, 2004, almost five years before she surfaced last summer with the two daughters fathered by her alleged captor Phillip Garrido.
"How many times is he allowed to take it away from me?" she wrote. "I am afraid he doesn't see how the things he says makes me a prisoner."
El Dorado County prosecutors quoted three portions of Dugard's diary in the court papers seeking a protective order barring Garrido and his wife Nancy from trying to contact Dugard or her children, now 12 and 15.
The motion came in response to papers filed last week by the Garridos' defense lawyers trying to force prosecutors to tell them where Dugard is living and if she has a lawyer. A hearing is set for Feb. 26.
District Attorney Vern Pierson said Dugard's writings show that Phillip Garrido controlled her in the past and was trying to exert continued psychological pressure on her from jail.
Dugard, now 29, has "emphatically stated to our office that she does not want any contact with the defendants or their attorneys," Pierson said in the documents. "The people ask this court to protect Ms. Doe and to, once and for all, put an end to the defendant's manipulation."
The papers referred to Dugard as "Jane Doe" because she was 11 when she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted.
The documents also reveal new details about Dugard's captivity, saying she was kept in a building in a hidden compound inside the backyard of the Garridos' Antioch home for the first 18 months after her abduction then prohibited from leaving the yard for the first four years.
In another diary entry, dated more than two years after Dugard was snatched from the street outside her South Lake Tahoe home, Dugard wrote, "I got (a cat) for my birthday from Phil and Nancy ... they did something for me that no one else would do for me, they paid 200 dollars just so I could have my own kitten."
A decade later, however, Dugard wrote of the complex emotions surrounding her situation and Phillip Garrido.
"I don't want to hurt him ... sometimes I think my very presence hurts him," she wrote. "So how can I ever tell him how I want to be free. Free to come and go as I please ... Free to say I have a family. I will never cause him pain if it's in my power to prevent it. FREE."
In the court filing, Pierson said Dugard and the two daughters she had by Garrido when she was 14 and 17 had been instructed by the Garridos to run to the hidden backyard if anyone ever came to the door.
He also described a plan that Phillip Garrido allegedly hatched to stay in contact with Dugard if he was ever arrested. Dugard told prosecutors Garrido instructed her to request an attorney who could communicate directly with his "without law enforcement knowledge," the papers state.
Since Garrido's arrest, he has tried repeatedly to put the plan into action, Pierson said.
On the day he was arrested and Dugard's identity was revealed, Garrido advised her to get a lawyer. The next month, Garrido sent a letter to a Sacramento television station stating he wanted to reach Dugard "by attorney mail only."
In January, Garrido's lawyer wrote Dugard saying, "Mr. Garrido has asked me to convey that he does not harbor any ill will toward (Ms. Doe) or the children and loves them very much."
Dugard interpreted the "ill will" remark to mean she was not following the plan and that the letter was another way of manipulating her, the papers state.
Phillip Garrido's lawyer, Deputy Public Defender Susan Gellman, wrote in an e-mail that contacting a witness to determine what happened is part of her job as a defense attorney, and the information she has been seeking is a matter of routine in criminal cases.
"For the district attorney to hint that it is somehow improper or nefarious is disingenuous to say the least," Gellman wrote. "I am not the 'tool' of any man, as he has been intimated in today's filing."
Nancy Garrido's court-appointed defense lawyer Stephen Tapson did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
The Garridos have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The couple also are requesting permission to visit each other in jail, where they are being held on $30 million and $20 million bail, respectively.

Heart-Attack Clinton
Former President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized with chest pains at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
A source told CBS News Clinton, 63, was in his office and experienced chest pains and went to see his doctor, Craig Smith, as a precautionary measure.
After his visit with a cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to put two stents in one of his coronary arteries, according to Douglas Band, counselor to Clinton. Band said he was in good spirits. Dr. Smith performed a quadruple bypass on Clinton about five and half years ago to free four blocked arteries.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left Washington for New York to be with her husband, reports CBS News anchor Katie Couric. Chelsea Clinton, their daughter, is at the hospital with her father.
CBS News medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook reports that in Clinton's 2004 procedure, doctors relieved blockages in four arteries supplying his heart by using blood vessels taken from other parts of his body. After his initial surgery, the hope was that a healthy diet, exercise and medication would prevent further blockages.

"Gossip Girl" New Teaser Flick
It feels like years since we’ve seen Serena, Blair, Chuck, and the other wonderful snobs from Gossip Girl and, frankly, I just haven’t been the same. The bitchiness of shows like The Real Housewives of Orange County and Kell on Earth simply cannot compete with my GG kids’ barbed tongues. Thankfully, the CW soap is returning March 8 and the network has just released a new teaser full of revelations. Chuck’s mother may be alive! Jenny may lose her virginity! Vanessa is sans undies! Best line of the clip has to be from Chuck in regards to his possibly resurfaced mama: “I think that whore may be my mother.” Oooh and I love that Jenny is going all bad girl again! That always makes for the best drama. Plus, William Baldwin, who I’ve had a crush on since Sliver (which I saw in the theater—don’t judge me), is joining as Serena’s mysterious father! Watch the teaser below…
"hooligan" of British fashion McQueen is Died
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, whose provocative collections made him a global star, was found dead at his London home on Thursday in what media said appeared to be suicide. He was 40.
Nicknamed the "hooligan" of British fashion, McQueen worked his way up after starting out as a teenage trainee tailor. He had been expected to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week in March.
"He was found dead this morning," McQueen's communications director Samantha Garrett told Reuters by telephone.
A statement released by his office -- referring to the designer by his given first name, Lee -- read: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.
Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious. The BBC reported that McQueen had announced the death of his mother on his Twitter site earlier this month.
McQueen's friend, the influential British fashion insider Isabella Blow who helped his career take flight, took her own life in 2007 at the age of 48.
Born in a working class area of London, the youngest of six children, McQueen left school at the age of 16 and gained an apprenticeship at the traditional Savile Row tailors Anderson and Shephard, moving on to neighboring Gieves and Hawkes.
The former British Designer of the Year winner eventually gained a masters degree in fashion design from London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
McQueen had an ability to shock. An example was his autumn/winter 1995 collection "Highland Rape," which featured disheveled looking models in torn clothing.
The following year, McQueen, with his close-cropped hair, Doc Marten boots and controversial designs, was named head designer at the staid Paris couture house Givenchy.
His first collection for Givenchy was not widely considered to be a success.
But he went on to establish his own label and become part of the Gucci group of brands owned by French retailer and luxury goods group PPR, drawing in fans, customers and fame and earning a place at the top table of fashion.
"I worked closely with Lee for the last five years. His creative force was inspiring to me and all those who were fortunate to know and work with him," Robert Polet, President and CEO, Gucci Group said in a statement.
"Lee's passing will be mourned deeply. He has left us too soon; he had so much more to give, but the legacy he leaves us is a rich one and one that we will cherish and honor."
Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman praised the designer for his "brilliant imagination."
"At one level he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashions shows that mixed design, technology and performance and on another he was a modern day genius whose gothic aesthetic was adopted by women the world over," Shulman wrote on the fashion bible's website.
"His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't."
Central Saint Martin's professor, Louise Wilson, said McQueen had a massive impact on fashion.
"A lot of people don't realize the impact he had, whether that was low-waisted jeans - he designed the bumster and it was taken up by the whole of the world, practically, how they wore their jeans, very, very low."
Didier Grumbach, president of the French couture federation, said McQueen was a great technician and creator, comparing his legacy to the late great French designer Christian Dior

LA judge delays ruling on Jackson medical files
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff said Thursday he wants to further consider arguments raised by Joe Jackson's attorney. He says he will issue a ruling next week.
Joe Jackson's attorney Brian Oxman sought Michael Jackson's medical records as part of an effort to obtain a monthly stipend for the Jackson family patriarch.
He says his client has a right to know more about his son's death and the records could also determine how to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
Jackson's estate opposed releasing the records.

John Mayer -- Sorry for Dropping the N-Word
John Mayer is apologizing for using the N-Word in that explosively controversial Playboy interview in which he compared his penis to a white supremacist.
During the interview, Mayer stated that "black people" love him -- and then he brought up the topic of a "hood pass."
While explaining the meaning of a hood pass, Mayer said, "It's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n*gger pass."
But moments ago, Mayer issued an apology, via Twitter, saying "I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself."
Mayer added, "It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged."

Levi Johnston has just fired back at his baby mama
Levi Johnston has just fired back at his baby mama, Bristol Palin, and unlike grandma Sarah Palin, Levi didn't need to write crib notes on his hand.
Levi is responding to Bristol's demand for $1,750 a month in child support. In his opposing legal papers, Levi's lawyer, Rex Butler, says Levi's income is "erratic." Bristol claims that Levi raked in more than $105,000 in 2009. But attorney Butler says, prior to 2009, Levi never made more than $10,000 a year.
In the legal docs, Johnston agrees to pay 20% of his adjusted 2009 income -- though he doesn't say exactly how much he made. He also agrees to file quarterly income reports. In his declaration, Levi says in 2010, his only contractual guarantee for income is $25,000 plus "some contingencies based on my Playgirl shoot." He says he doesn't see how it's possible to pay $1,750 a month in child support.
And there's this. According to the docs, "Levi Johnston stands before this court as a 19-year-old with good hopeful for an entertainment career but the chances of increased income are as unknowable as it would be for any young person working his way into the entertainment industry: not particularly good."

Jillian Michaels sued over diet supplement
Jillian Michaels has been sued for alleged false advertising by a woman who claims she was duped into buying a diet supplement endorsed by the celebrity trainer.
Christie Christensen of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is seeking class-action status for the case she filed Tuesday in Los Angeles. Michaels is a hard-charging, no-nonsense trainer best-known as one of the stars of NBC's hit reality show, "The Biggest Loser."
Christensen's lawsuit claims she bought a product called "Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control" last month and that it has failed to lessen her appetite or cause her to lose weight as advertised.
Michaels' picture and endorsement appear on the packaging, touting her as "America's Toughest Trainer." The product and a Web site advertising include the claim, "Two Capsules Before Main Meals and You Lose Weight ... That's It!"
"Ms. Michaels knows better - taking two pills before eating does not miraculously cause weight loss," the lawsuit states.
The Web site and packaging however note that the statements haven't been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Christensen is also suing Utah-based Basic Research and ThinCare International, which manufacture and market several diet and weight loss products endorsed by Michaels.
ThinCare said in a statement it offers a money-back guarantee for purchasers and expects to win the case. The company also touted touted its products' popularity and testing standards.
"Not only have placebo-controlled, double-blind, published clinical studies been conducted on the active calorie-control compound in Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control, but that research was reviewed by some of the leading weight-loss experts in the world before Jillian would put her name on the product," the statement read.
Michaels' publicist, Heidi Krupp, did not return a phone message seeking comment Wednesday.
"Calorie Control" is not among the products that NBC lists for sale on its "Biggest Loser" Web site, which include video games, DVDs and equipment, some bearing Michaels' image.
"The Biggest Loser" has been a hit for NBC, often appearing in Nielsen Co.'s Top 20 rankings for prime-time TV programs.
Christensen's suit seeks unspecified damages that are not expected to total more than $5 million. Her filing states she has "struggled with weight loss her entire life" and bought "Calorie Control" because of Michaels' endorsement.

'American Idol's' Kara DioGuardi likes Ellen DeGeneres, doubts Howard Stern can replace Simon Cowell
"Right now that's a rumor, and I don't really know if I can even speak on it. [But] I don't think he has a musical background or any kind of music... anything. I think that Simon -- if you're going to replace Simon -- you have to have that background," DioGuardi told reporters during a Wednesday conference call.
"You have to have somebody who knows about signing great artists and being a part of their career from the very beginning to the very end... I think that's probably a precursor for whoever takes that position if they're not a big artist who's been through it themselves."
According to a Friday New York Post report, American Idol had approached stern after hearing his repeated on-air mentions that he is "open to other offers" once his current $500 million Sirius XM Radio deal expires in January 2011.
DioGuardi told reporters that "you have to take any rumor you hear about American Idol with a grain of salt" and added "they're usually not true."
"Last year was Kara and Paula fighting, hate each other... These things are just ridiculous," DioGuardi told reporters.
"We're all there to do one thing and that's to find the greatest contestant that we can find. That's what the focus is, and I know Ellen and Simon both take that seriously."
American Idol's ninth-season Hollywood Week filmed last month but didn't begin airing until last night --
"To judge on one person's show is very difficult to do. I'm speaking from experience, when I first came in. It's something that takes time to get used to and I think she did an incredible job for her first time there. Hopefully you'll see more," said DioGuardi about DeGeneres.
"When I was sitting next to her, I felt she had a really good handle on whether a contestant had potential, whether they had star quality. She knew if something was off in their vocals or their performance. I thought she delivered the message with kindness but also had criticisms in there."
While she offered insight into how DeGeneres did, DioGuardi declined to compare her to Abdul.
"I really don't want to speak about Paula's absence because you can't really compare Paula and Ellen," she said. "They're completely different and I think they both bring something valuable to the table."
DioGuardi also discussed two stars she wouldn't mind seeing as mentors during the ninth season once the season's finals begin -- starting with Harry Connick, Jr.
"I think he would be great -- especially for standards or maybe even jazz," said DioGuardi before adding she'd also like to see Meatloaf.
"I think he'd be fun for rock. I've actually worked with him in the studio and we actually recorded a song recently. I was very impressed with the way he brought out a different side of me vocally. He kind of has a method acting background, and he applied it to singing and performance."

Cyndi Lauper, Lady Gaga Put Spotlight on Women and HIV
Pop music star Cyndi Lauper believes that girls should still wanna have fun, they just shouldn't overlook their risk.
That's why she and music sensation Lady Gaga are teaming up on a new campaign -- sponsored by MAC Cosmetics' nonprofit MAC AIDS Fund -- to remind women that the remains a potent threat to women as well.
"Fighting HIV/AIDS is not a one-woman job," Lauper told HealthDay. "Lady Gaga and I are using our voices as a call to action for women all over the world. I lost a lot of friends to AIDS before we even knew what it was. Today, across the world, women are more likely to become infected with HIV than men. Each one of us needs to do our part to fight for women impacted by HIV and AIDS."
And while Lauper, 56, got involved in the fight against AIDS early in the epidemic, Lady Gaga -- the fashion-forward icon whose hits include "Just Dance" and "Pokerface" -- said she's on board for a new generation.
"Anything I can do to help raise money for HIV/AIDS awareness -- that's what I'm here for, and I'm very honored to be a part of this," the pop star, 23, said in a statement.
There does seem to be a need for better awareness if the results of a new MAC AIDS Fund-sponsored poll of 1,000 American women is any indication.
Among the survey's findings:
The attitudes reflected in the survey belie the fact that HIV remains a major cause of illness and death for American women.
In fact, "the number of women living with HIV in the country has tripled since 1985 and it's the leading cause of death for black women ages 18 to 35," noted Nancy Mahon, executive director of the MAC AIDS Fund, which has earmarked more than $2.5 million to projects aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS.
The perception lingers that AIDS is "a gay disease," Mahon said. "While it's true that men who have sex with men remain the highest risk group, women are close behind," she noted.
One medical expert agreed.
"In a lot of communities, women still don't think of HIV as a woman's disease unless your boyfriend [turns out to be] gay, you're doing drugs or you're doing something out of the ordinary," said Dr. Shannon Hader, senior deputy director of the HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD and TB Administration at Washington D.C.'s Department of Health.
Hader's team is partnering with the MAC AIDS Fund to increase awareness among residents of the nation's capitol, which has especially high rates of HIV infection. They've also collaborated on one of the first comprehensive efforts to spread awareness about the female condom, which could give women more power over decisions related to protected sex.
Hader said too many women trust their partners to keep them safe from HIV, so they don't ask the necessary questions.
"Do I know my own and my partner's HIV status? Is it only the two of us in this relationship? And should we use condoms? Relationships aren't always easy, and those aren't always questions that people really want to deal with," Hader said.
Too many women also find it tough to get an HIV test, even when they ask for it. According to Mahon, "many women have told us, 'I go out and ask my doctor for a test and they say, well, what have you been up to?'"
The solution, according to the experts, is easy: Make the HIV test a routine part of a woman's medical care.
"A lot of women who aren't sure if they've been tested for HIV or maybe are complacent about it have been seeing health providers, getting care, getting Pap smears, etc.," Hader noted. "So, if they haven't been offered an HIV test every time they have come in for a routine health exam, then it is like the medical community has said, 'This isn't important to you.'"
Instead, doctors should, "offer [the test] as a 'no big deal' part of every exam," Mahon reasoned. Otherwise, "it becomes this big stigma point to ask for it."
Changes like that will take time. In the interim, efforts like the MAC AIDS Fund's campaign aim to chip away at stereotypes and complacency. As part of the campaign, Lauper and Lady Gaga have each lent their names to a shade of VIVA GLAM lipstick, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the MAC AIDS Fund.
As Lady Gaga noted, women need only take a few simple steps to shield themselves from HIV.
"Use protection, and be selective and strong about those you love," she said. "Your body is sacred, and it's OK to say no. Make your partners get tested, go together: it will only make your relationship stronger and healthier."
Lauper agreed. "Be smart, be careful, protect yourself," she said in a statement. "And look out for your sisters to make sure they are doing the same."

Among the survey's findings:
- Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of women surveyed do not know their current HIV status.
- Most (78 percent) say they've had unprotected sex, and 72 percent of those who had sex without a condom said they did so because they believed they were in an exclusive relationship.
- Over half (55 percent) of women say they have never had an HIV test, and about four in every 10 women who were tested can't remember when their last test took place. The average woman who has been tested hasn't had an HIV test in over three years.
- Nearly six in 10 women (58 percent) say they don't get tested because they believe they are in a monogamous relationship.
- One in every five women said there was nothing that would convince them now to get an HIV test, even if they had already had one in the past.

FEDERICO FELLINI - KING OF THE PAPARAZZI DEAD AT 80
The celebrity snapper who reportedly inspired the character Paparazzo in FEDERICO FELLINI's movie masterpiece LA DOLCE VITA has died.
Felice Quinto, who was dubbed the 'king of the paparazzi' was 80 when he died in Maryland last month (Jan10). His death was confirmed by his wife Geraldine on Monday (08Feb10).
He was the first photographer to use aggressive tactics to snap stars and would ride around Rome, Italy on a motorcycle, taking photographs that appeared in gossip publications all over the world.
Fellini reportedly asked Quinto to play a photographer in La Dolce Vita, but the snapper declined the offer because he was making more money taking pictures. He briefly appeared in the film as a bystander.
He later became an Associated Press photographer and famously covered John F. Kennedy’s funeral for the agency.
But he never left celebrity photography for long - Quinto became a regular fixture at New York's Studio 54 nightclub in the 1970s, and Elizabeth Taylor hired him as her personal photographer.
He retired in 1993.
In America Quinto continued to photograph celebrities. In the 1970s perhaps his most fruitful location was Studio 54, the New York nightclub that was a second home to many of the best-known personalities of the day.
According to Ian Schrager, co-founder of Studio 54: "We didn't have any discernible product –our music and liquor were the same as everybody else's. It was the magic we could create. Quinto turned us into this media phenomenon, with these pictures that would make it around the world."
Today many of Quinto's images of celebrities are displayed in a re-creation of Studio 54 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Quinto claimed that he preferred to ask politely for permission before taking a photograph. "We used to keep the classical 10ft away," he added. "These guys now are like vultures." In the close confines of Studio 54, the respectable distance was reduced to 7ft: "I got the breast of Ali McGraw from 7ft. No problem."
He explained his philosophy as follows: "Jack Nicholson wants me to pay $10 to see him in a movie. If I pass him with his pants down taking a leak against a tree, you want me to keep walking? Give me a break."
He also worked for a time as personal photographer to Elizabeth Taylor.
In 1993 he retired, and four years later published a book of pictures he had taken at Studio 54. Some of his photographs have been exhibited.
Asked whether he regretted his role in the creation of a celebrity culture, Quinto replied: "People are human. They want to see these pictures, and there is too much money to be made."
Felice Quinto died at Rockville, Maryland, on January 16. His wife survives him.

skater nancy kerrigan fathers death
The medical examiner has ruled that the death of Daniel Kerrigan, the father of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, was a homicide, the Middlesex County district attorney's office said Tuesday. The skater's brother, Mark, was arraigned in January on assault and battery charges in an incident involving his father, but the district attorney's office would not say if other charges might be filed against the younger Kerrigan in light of the medical examiner's finding.
Daniel Kerrigan, 70, died January 24 after an alleged altercation with his son at the Kerrigan home in Stoneham, Massachusetts.
The Kerrigan family released a statement through their attorney expressing disappointment "that the medical examiner would release a cause of death without having all of the relevant facts. We believe this finding to be premature and inaccurate."
"The Kerrigan family does not blame anyone for the unfortunate death of Dan Kerrigan, who had a pre-existing heart condition," said the family statement, released by attorney Tracy Miner.
Mark Kerrigan, 45, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him January 26. Through his attorney, he denied any responsibility in his father's death.
According to Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley, police responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:30 a.m. January 24 from Brenda Kerrigan, wife of Daniel and mother to Mark and Nancy Kerrigan.
Keeley told District Court Judge Mark Sullivan during the arraignment for Mark Kerrigan that there was a violent argument and struggle between the father and his son, resulting in the elder Kerrigan falling or collapsing on the kitchen floor. Keeley said Mark Kerrigan told authorities "that he did in fact have an argument with his father, the argument became physical, he grabbed his father around the neck, and at some point the father collapsed to the floor."
According to Keeley, police found Mark Kerrigan in the basement of the house, "clearly intoxicated" and "extremely combative." He refused to comply with police officers, said Keeley, and they had to subdue him with pepper spray before forcibly removing him from the home.
Mark Kerrigan's attorney, Denise Moore, said in court that Kerrigan was unemployed, was recently released from a correctional facility and was living at home with his parents. He is taking medications and seeking psychological help for post-traumatic stress, apparently from his time in the Army, she added.
Despite appeals from his attorney, the judge ordered Kerrigan held on $10,000 cash bail. His next court appearance is expected to be February 24.

Nancy Kerrigan first gained prominence by winning a bronze medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. In 1994 she earned a silver medal in Lillehammer, Norway. But she is perhaps best remembered for being injured in an attack before the 1994 Winter Games by skating rival Tonya Harding's ex-husband and an accomplice.

Brad Pitt and Angelina kisses
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie hit up the Super Bowl yesterday -- where they appeared tighter than a spiral from Drew Brees
The couple -- who have been subject to a ton of breakup rumors lately -- were all over each other in a private box at the game in Miami.
In case you missed it, the Saints won.

Beyonce's Dad-- Destiny's child..
Beyonce Knowles has a new half-brother -- if you believe Alexsandra Wright.
Wright -- who filed a paternity suit against Mathew Knowles back in October -- gave birth last Thursday to a baby boy. The name ... Nixon. Priceless.
Wright -- who once appeared on "Scrubs" -- claims she had a relationship with Knowles that lasted 18 months. And, sources say, Wright claims she and Mathew picked out the baby name together. We're guessing they were watching "Frost/Nixon."
Sources tell us Wright has a court date next week in an attempt to dislodge some support money from Mathew. We're told Alexsandra hasn't gotten a penny from Mathew for the baby.
We put a call into Mathew's rep. So far, no comment, but our sources say he wants a formal paternity test before doing a whole John Edwards thing.

Elizabeth Smart kidnapper pleads guilty
A woman convicted in the 2002 kidnapping of Utah teenager Elizabeth Smart pleaded guilty in the attempted kidnapping of Smart's cousin a month later, court officials said Monday.
In exchange for Wanda Barzee's plea of guilty but mentally ill to one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, prosecutors dropped state charges against her in Smart's abduction, said Nancy Volmer, spokeswoman for Utah state courts.
Barzee, 64, pleaded guilty in November to federal charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor in connection with Smart's abduction. As part of that plea agreement, she agreed to cooperate with the state and federal cases against her husband, Brian David Mitchell, federal prosecutors have said.
Mitchell took her to a wooded area behind her home and performed a mock marriage ceremony with her, she said. During the nine months of her captivity, Smart testified, no 24-hour period passed without her being raped by Mitchell.

U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball has not yet ruled on Mitchell's competency. State court proceedings are on hold pending the outcome of the federal case.
Barzee had been housed at the Utah State Hospital while courts determined her competency as well as Mitchell's. After years of being declared incompetent, she recently was declared competent to stand trial, according to the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper. A state court had ruled she could be forcibly medicated, and that ruling led federal prosecutors to proceed with bringing a case against the couple, the Tribune said.Justin Bieber nude Caught with ex girlfriend topless

Justin Bieber on FIRE
Justin Bieber took a break from answering phones at BET's "SOS Saving Ourselves: Help for Haiti" telethon Friday night (February 5) to wow the crowd with a medley of his hits.
The teen star performed a few fan favorites, including "Baby" and "I'll Never Let You Go." But Bieber mixed things up a bit when he busted out French lyrics on the first verse of "One Less Lonely Girl," before finishing the song in English.
He then told the crowd, "I need everyone to take out their cell phones," before launching into "I'll Never Let You Go." The crowd then bounced along with him to new single "Baby" as Bieber was joined onstage by his collaborator on the song, Ludacris. Highlighting the reason everyone had come together for the show, Bieber changed the chorus to "Baby, baby, Haiti." As he wrapped up his performance he told the crowd, "Donate to Haiti, everybody. Thank you very much. God bless."
Bieber was one of the many performers in a concert that included Robin Thicke and India.Arie, Chris Brown, Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige, Akon and Monica. All money raised at the telethon will be going to several charities, including Project Media Share, Yele Haiti, C.A.R.E. and Procter & Gamble's Children's Safe Water Program. Pharrell said earlier in the night, "Haiti is a world away and tonight we're here to close that gap. We're here so that they know the world is watching — Haiti, we're here for you."

Dr. Andrew, Jim carry, Jeinnifer mcarthy and the monkeys
Dr. Andrew Wakefield is being discredited to prevent an historic study from being published that for the first time looks at vaccinated versus unvaccinated primates and compares health outcomes, with potentially devastating consequences for vaccine makers and public health officials.
It is our most sincere belief that Dr. Wakefield and parents of children with autism around the world are being subjected to a remarkable media campaign engineered by vaccine manufacturers reporting on the retraction of a paper published in The Lancet in 1998 by Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues.
The retraction from The Lancet was a response to a ruling from England’s General Medical Council, a kangaroo court where public health officials in the pocket of vaccine makers served as judge and jury. Dr. Wakefield strenuously denies all the findings of the GMC and plans a vigorous appeal.
Despite rampant misreporting, Dr. Wakefield’s original paper regarding 12 children with severe bowel disease and autism never rendered any judgment whatsoever on whether or not vaccines cause autism, and The Lancet’s retraction gets us no closer to understanding this complex issue.
Dr. Wakefield is one of the world’s most respected and well-published gastroenterologists. He has published dozens of papers since 1998 in well-regarded peer-reviewed journals all over the world. His work documenting the bowel disease of children with autism and his exploration of novel ways to treat bowel disease has helped relieve the pain and suffering of thousands of children with autism.
For the past decade, parents in our community have been clamoring for a relatively simple scientific study that could settle the debate over the possible role of vaccines in the autism epidemic once and for all: compare children who have been vaccinated with children who have never received any vaccines and see if the rate of autism is different or the same.
Few people are aware that this extremely important work has not only begun, but that a study using an animal model has already been completed exploring this topic in great detail.
Dr. Wakefield is the co-author, along with eight other distinguished scientists from institutions like the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Washington, of a set of studies that explore the topic of vaccinated versus unvaccinated neurological outcomes using monkeys.
The first phase of this monkey study was published three months ago in the prestigious medical journal Neurotoxicology, and focused on the first two weeks of life when the vaccinated monkeys received a single vaccine for Hepatitis B, mimicking the U.S. vaccine schedule. The results, which you can read for yourself HERE, were disturbing. Vaccinated monkeys, unlike their unvaccinated peers, suffered the loss of many reflexes that are critical for survival.
Dr. Wakefield and his scientific colleagues are on the brink of publishing their entire study, which followed the monkeys through the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule over a multi-year period. It is our understanding that the difference in outcome for the vaccinated monkeys versus the unvaccinated controls is both stark and devastating.
There is no question that the publication of the monkey study will lend substantial credibility to the theory that over-vaccination of young children is leading to neurological damage, including autism. The fallout from the study for vaccine makers and public health officials could be severe. Having denied the possibility of the vaccine-autism connection for so long while profiting immensely from a recent boom in vaccine sales around the world, it’s no surprise that they would seek to repress this important work.
Behind the scenes, the pressure to keep the work of Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues from being published is immense, and growing every day. Medical journals take extreme risk of backlash in publishing any studies that question the safety of the vaccination program, no matter how well-designed and thorough the research might be. Neurotoxicology, a highly-respected medical journal, deserves great credit for courageously publishing the first phase of this vaccinated monkey study.
The press has been deeply misled in the way The Lancet retraction, and Dr. Wakefield’s mock trial, have been characterized. Led by the pharmaceutical companies and their well-compensated spokespeople, Dr. Wakefield is being vilified through a well-orchestrated smear campaign designed to prevent this important new work from seeing the light of day.
What medical journal would want to step in front of this freight train? Moreover, why now, after 12 years of inaction, did The Lancet and GMC suddenly act? Is it coincidence that the monkey study is currently being submitted to medical journals for review and publication?
We urge the media to take a close look at the first phase of the monkey study discussed above and to start asking a very simple question: What was the final outcome of the 14 primates that were vaccinated using the U.S. vaccine schedule and how did that compare to the unvaccinated controls?
The U.S. vaccine schedule has grown from 10 vaccines given to our children in the 1980s to 36 today, perfectly matching the dramatic rise in autism. The work of Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues deserves to be shared with the world to further, rather than censor, scientific progress.

Michael Jackson Doctor Charged With Manslaughter
The doctor is in...a big heaping wad of trouble. After spending the past eight months since Michael Jackson death building a case.
Los Angeles prosecutors finally believe they have enough evidence to lay the blame on Dr. Conrad Murray. Not to mention finally managing to keep a court date.
The district attorney formally filed a misdemeanor count of involuntary manslaughter against Murray today, blaming Jackson's personal physician with overmedicating the star with the powerful anesthetic propofol. The charge carries a maximum of four years in prison.
The court alleged that Murray "did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson...in the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to a felony; and in the commission of a lawful act which might have produced death, in an unlawful manner, and without due caution and circumspection."
Murray, who has publicly maintained that he neither prescribed nor administered any medications that should have killed Jackson, is expected to voluntarily surrender and be arraigned at the Airport Branch of Los Angeles Superior Court this afternoon.
The physician has been the primary focus of investigators since Jackson died back on June 25. But the case seemed to be ramping up in recent weeks, after the entertainer's death certificate was ammened in January to list his cause of death as "homicide." The document specifically cited "acute propofol intoxication" via "intravenous injection by another."
Murray quickly hired SoCal-based criminal defender J. Michael Flanagan as part of a growing legal team.

Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” on STEROIDS
Spotted: Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” showing off his six-pack. I think it’s safe to say he’s been following his daily edict of GTL (Gym, Tan, Laundry) but is his look worth all the mans caping? Do you go wild for the self-described Guido, or is this one situation you’d rather avoid?
On Jersey Shore being real: Nothing was planned. Everybody's friends on the show and that's why it's real. We're actually very close in real life.
On staying in sometimes: You can't go out every night because every night you're not really prepared to look that good — it takes a little toll on you.
On rumors that he's on steroids: No way. I'm 100 percent natural. I just have very good genetics. I've had a six-pack ever since I was little.
On tension with Ronnie and Sammi: Me and [Ronnie] are friends but Sam is his girl. There's always going to be tension. I mean, we are friends first, but that's my good friend and that's his girl, and I hooked up with his girl first.
On their status: I think they got back together but recently broke up again. Their relationship is really none of my business; my business is The Situation.
On the ladies: Right now I take life moment by moment. I'm not worried about girls. I'm focused on my career, but if I see something I like, I'll grab it up.
Hopefully we can see "The Situation" working with chip n dales in the near future...
